Aphi's Guide to Cal Day!
Welcome to Cal, and congratulations on your acceptance!!! We’re incredibly excited that Cal Day is finally here and we hope that visiting makes this difficult decision a little bit easier. We realize there are so many events being offered, so to make it a little less overwhelming, our resident tour guide, Rachel, has put together an itinerary to make your Cal Day the best it can be:
8 A.M: Pretend to be a student on her way to her first class of the day and grab a drink and some breakfast at Alpha Phi’s favorite spot, Caffe Strada, on College and Bancroft!
8:30-9:30 A.M.: Head to 1 Pimentel Hall to learn about being pre-med at Cal! (Fun fact: Alpha Phi has more STEM majors than any other sorority on campus!)
9-10 A.M.: Interested in Economics? Learn about the major in 2050 Valley Life Sciences Building!
10-11 A.M.: Learn about Decals in 205 Dwinelle! These are student led classes ranging from Harry Potter, Kanye West, to HIV research. Who knows, maybe you’ll end up teaching one like our sister Jayden!
10-11am (option 2): Stop at F295 Andersen Auditorium at Haas to get some information on the Haas Business Undergraduate Program, which many Alpha Phis are a part of!
11-12 P.M.: Pop by 2030 Valley Life Sciences Building to check out what is being done with Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine here are Cal. While you’re there, rooms 2066 and 2070 have poster sessions of research that undergraduates are currently doing— many of our sisters are involved in all sorts of research at Cal!
12:30 P.M.: PanHellenic house tours leaving from Kroeber Fountain! Great way to end the morning full of activities before grabbing lunch! (Or if all the walking around has made you hungry, you could go after lunch at 1 P.M.!)
1-2 P.M.: Grab lunch at some of Alpha Phis favorite spots (read: affordable): Top Dog, The Melt, or Sliver!
2-3 P.M.: Learn about what it means to be a Berkeley student at 2440 Bancroft Way! (For Alpha Phis it means getting involved and being passionate about all that you do both in and out of the classroom.)
3-4 P.M.: Cal Day is both exciting, and hectic, so take some time to just walk around the campus and picture yourself as a student. Sit on Memorial Glade, relax in the forest that surrounds the College of Natural Resources, hike up to the Big C, or hang out in the Student Union and just listen to all the excitement going on around you.
5 P.M.: Grab an early dinner in Elmwood! Just a 10 minute walk south on College, you’ll find yourself in the quaintest area of Berkeley where Alpha Phis love to go to dinner to celebrate birthdays, end of exams, or just to have a nice time out with their friends!
We hope this itinerary helped you figure out what to do on the illustrious Cal Day! If none of this has caught your eye, almost every department is offering lectures and info sessions, clubs and teams will be set up around campus, official campus and housing tours will be happening all day, as well as over 400 lectures to attend! Choosing to go to Berkeley has been one of the best decisions of our life and we hope you choose to come here as well. Go Bears, Go Greek!
