Hello everyone!

My name is Isy Thapar and I am the 2020-2021 President of the Alpha Phi, Lambda Chapter at UC Berkeley. Welcome to our website!

Being in Alpha Phi to me means that you are surrounded by over one hundred and fifty incredible, tenacious women that support each of your endeavors. Alpha Phi has introduced me to my closest friends and given me some of the best experiences I could have ever asked for. I feel so honored to be a part of such an amazing organization that aims to empower women and continuously works to achieve that goal each day. One of my favorite aspects of Alpha Phi is that the women in this chapter participate in a wide range of diverse disciplines and extracurricular activities; they are the leaders of clubs and other organizations, determined athletes, dedicated students, indefatigable workers and individuals who truly inspire me with their drive and intelligence both on our campus and in the surrounding communities.

In addition to the individual accomplishments of the members in this chapter, I feel that one of the most impressive goals that Alpha Phi has accomplished is how we have maintained the supportive environment that has been long established in our chapter, while being completely virtual and so many miles apart.

Another goal that we have collectively set in this chapter is to continually educate ourselves on the intolerable injustices that are happening around the nation and around the world. We acknowledge that Greek Life is not only a predominately white institution, but has also played an active role in perpetuating issues of institutionalized racism, white supremacy, elitism, and prejudice. Alpha Phi is by no means innocent of this, but we have dedicated ourselves and our chapter to actively work to be a part of the solution. We have begun this through the implementation of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Department, complete with our VP of DEI, Director of DIversity, Director of Community Engagement, and Director of Community Development. Alpha Phi works towards creating lasting, meaningful change through challenging and fixing broken structures, educating ourselves and others, and fighting injustice in our broader community. Joining Alpha Phi was, by far, the best decision I have made since I came to college; it has helped such a big school feel just a little bit smaller while also allowing me to feel supported in all of my aspirations, as well as having a community to celebrate the highs and weather the lows of life with. I am so grateful for the unparalleled support this organization has provided me with, and we hope that you can say the same!

We can’t wait to meet you & GO BEARS :)

With love,

Isy Thapar
